A very warm welcome to Dorsten !

Tobias Stockhoff, MayorIt gives us great pleasure to be able to greet you as a visitor to the homepage of the town of Dorsten.

Feel free to surf your way through the eleven districts belonging to the former hanseatic town on the river Lippe and stroll through our towncentre and the other attractive centres in the area.

Allow yourself to be tempted by our "Virtual Dorsten" - and afterwards come and visit us as guest of our town in reality!

Dorsten welcomes you - we're looking forward to meet you.

Dorsten (approx. 76.000 inhabitants) is at the edge of the Ruhr Area: close to the main University cities of Münster, Bochum and Duisburg-Essen, close to the shopping-malls of Essen, Oberhausen and Düsseldorf, in the middle of the football triangle of Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund and Bochum, surrounded by world-famous museums and numerous features of a thriving industrial history.

Signs of 750 years of local history are visible, giving Dorsten its ambience and flair. Under the name of the old hanseatic town, the modern, extended town unites eleven districts with urban and village structures, agricultural and extensive countryside and woodland areas. Not only numerous cycle-paths and footpaths, but also leisure activities on the River Lippe and the canal contribute to making Dorsten a popular recreational area for the Ruhr Area. Dorsten is an attractive town which is worth living in and as such, it offers citizens of every age individual possibilities in their choice of residence, way of life and personal fulfilment. Dorsten has a well-planned, district-based infrastructure, which makes it attractive for families, singles and senior citizens alike. The good road-networks enable journeys both in and out of town to be undertaken quickly and effectively.

Local holidaymakers as well as long-term visitors have an ample choice of guest-houses with B & B, hotels of various categories, pensions, holiday homes and restaurants in the whole area of the town. The selection of foods range from simple but substantial dishes, right up to high-class star-awarded gastronomies. Smaller restaurants and cafes with Chinese, Italian, Turkish and Greek cuisine provide culinary variety. Restaurants and pubs, with and without beer gardens, can be found in all the different parts of the town. Data: 440 beds - motor-caravan parking - motor-boat harbour - aerodrome for gliders
