Objective of INTERREG IIIC is the strengthening of the economic and social cohesion within the EU. Working in common projects and the development of sustainable cooperation networks supports the interregional cooperation of regions without common borders. The comprehensive exchange of information and experiences shall turn policies and instruments of regional development more efficient and lighten the acquiring of information, knowledge and practical ideas from work in the range of "Objective-1 and Objective-2-Programmes". The programme is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The Regional Triangle of Weimar is a "Regional Framework Cooperation", a mini-programme within INTERREG IIIC. The partners - the land of North Rhine- Westphalia (Germany, lead partner), the Conseil Régional of Nord-Pas de Calais (France) and Voivodeship Silesia (Poland) - agree on a project-oriented cooperation in the three subject areas "Industrial Restructuring", "Social Policy" and "Modern Administration". One objective is the networking of public, public equivalent and private bodies to initialise sustainable partnerships and succeeding projects. Duration of this programme is January 2004 to March 2007. This framework operation is part-financed by funds of the EU-programme INTERREG IIIC and contains a financial capacity of 1,5 Mio. Euro for the First Call until the end of 2006.
